Dr. Robert J. Cipriano Jr

Dr. Robert J. Cipriano Jr., has been working with the community professionally within the field of psychology for 22 years. His undergraduate training in psychology was completed at Florida State University and he successfully completed a doctoral program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) in clinical psychology at Carlos Albizu University in Miami, Florida. He completed his doctoral internship at one of the largest state hospitals that housed the “criminally insane” within the Central United States. He currently owns and has developed his training and consulting business, SIMCIP GROUP Forensic-Psychological Consultants, located in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Dr. Cipriano is currently a Florida Licensed Psychologist. He is board certified in Police and Public Safety Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and for the past decade had also worked as a Police Psychologist for Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD). In that role he served as a consultant for the Special Response Team (SRT -Also known as SWAT) and provided expert training and developed strategies for effectively working with and understanding the “criminal mind.” He assisted the team in gaining insight and managing individuals who suffered from severe mental illness and who were in crisis. Additionally, he provided critical support to the crisis negotiation team when they were faced with crisis situations, hostages, career criminals, and barricaded subjects who posed a threat for police and the community at large.

His area of specialization includes utilizing his clinical skills operationally to target the spectrum of trauma and violence in the field. Such experience entails educating police, the military veteran, and the civilian population on the psychological effects from trauma as well as understanding and managing aspects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)-recognizing signs and symptoms of the disorder, how it manifests, and how to work and interact with those who may suffer from it.

Dr. Cipriano offers expert training in understanding the psychological dynamics and warning signs of active shooters, school shooters, school place violence, and bully behavior. Dr. Cipriano has a strong interest in this area and has developed a clinical curriculum to target, intervene, and potentially prevent such acts along this specific spectrum of aggression. His knowledge, experience, and expertise will be passed on to parents, educational institutions, administrators, law enforcement agencies, and youth programs on a national, state, and local level.

Retired Captain Michael Angelica

Michael Angelica is a retired police captain with over 30 years of law enforcement experience from one of the largest police departments within the Southeastern United States. During his career within the Miami-Dade Police Department, he served over 20 years in the Tactical Operation Section. He was assigned to the Special Response Team (SRT), as an officer for eight years and worked in every position on the team. When he was promoted to sergeant, he was selected for SRT’s training sergeant and filled that position for four years until he was promoted to lieutenant. In his reassignment as a lieutenant, he took over the Dignitary Protection Unit and training lieutenant position for an additional four years. When Mike was promoted to captain, he was assigned as the Tactical Operation Section Commander for four years. His responsibilities included the management of the operations of SRT, Bomb Squad, Canine Unit, Critical Incident Management Unit and the Department Chemical Agent Coordinator.

During Mike’s career assigned to Tactical Operations, he has been involved in the operational phase of executing and managing over a thousand high-risk search warrants and hundreds of SRT call-outs involving barricaded subjects, hostage situations, suicides, dignitary protection, aircraft high-jacking, and high-risk takedowns. Mike’s experience also includes ten years of operational duties in a District working as an officer and supervisor in the following assignments of road patrol, crime suppression team, crime prevention unit and priority service unit.

Mike ended his career serving as the Captain, Executive Officer for South District. His duties included the daily operations of South District for calls-for-service, investigations, enforcement, community concerns, budget and the management of over 200 personnel assigned to the district. Mike also served four years with the United States Marine Corps.

Retired Sergeant Edward Pijuan

Retired Sergeant Edward Pijuan is a 30 year veteran of law enforcement service that includes providing 26 years of U.S. military service with the U.S. Army Special Forces National Guard, serving our country in deployments such as Operation Enduring Freedom and other international deployments; providing 16 years of first line supervision; and providing 10 years of investigative experience for the Miami-Dade Police Department.

He has provided 3 years of full- time supervisory tactical duties for the Special Response Team (SRT also known as SWAT) serving high risk search warrants as a tactical professional and handling tactical operations for the Miami-Dade Police Department. He is currently a Team Leader for the Crisis Negotiator Team of SRT, providing critical support to the crisis negotiator team when faced with crisis situations, hostages, career criminals, and barricaded subjects who posed a threat for law enforcement and the community at large.

He was awarded an outstanding record of supervisory performance running the spectrum of law enforcement operations. Retired Sgt. Pijuan has an abundance of long-term investigative experience involving conducting in-depth interviews, evidence gathering, and assimilating within a team environment. He has an extensive background in Special Forces operations at the operational detachment/team level.

Linda Evans, Ph.D.

Linda Evans, Ph.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Florida. Her practice includes psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and consulting services. Dr. Evans’ private practice began in Hallandale Beach in 2001. She has been in South Florida since 1999, when she accepted an internship in Clinical Psychology at the University of Miami School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Evans began her career in mental health in 1990. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. A former high school mathematics teacher and tutor, Dr. Evans graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a double major in mathematics and education. She became intrigued with the assessment of achievement and intelligence, which led her to graduate study in psychology.

Dr. Evans has many years of experience in a variety of psychological assessment applications including the assessment of psychopathology, learning disabilities/giftedness, and neurocognitive functioning (e.g., dementia screening). She also performs employment related evaluations, court evaluations, and psychological readiness for elective surgery (e.g., cosmetic, gastric bypass). In addition to assessment and psychotherapy, Dr. Evans has worked as a consultant and presented on a variety of topics including Suicide and the Elderly, Neuropsychological Assessment of Seizure Disorders, and Abuse of Nursing Staff. Prior to full-time private practice, Dr. Evans served as Director of Outpatient Mental Health at Broward Correctional Institution, a maximum security women’s prison.

Dr. Simon

The President and founder of LJS Training and Consulting Group, LLC, Lawrence J. Simon, Psy.D., is a Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology certified as a clinical sexologist (for educational purposes only). He is the author of the book “Murder by Numbers: Perspectives on Serial Sexual Violence” and soon to be released “Mortal Desire: Origins of Sexualized Violence” Dr. Simon has dedicated his services to law enforcement, legal and forensic professionals throughout the country and is recognized as one of the most highly respected and accomplished instructors in the country. He is known for maintaining long-lasting professional relationships with his clientele and is consistent in his delivery of innovative presentations.

Dr. Simon is frequently requested by law enforcement and legal staff to serve as a consultant on numerous cases involving crimes of a sexual and explicit nature, including cold case homicides and appeared on CNN discussing his research and the minds of serial murderers. Dr. Simon has interviewed, treated and evaluated some of the most dangerous inmates in the country including inmates on death row. Dr. Simon’s latest book is Mortal Desire. He currently travels nationally and internationally providing training to law enforcement and their affiliates. Thousands have attended his innovative trainings.

Drawing on his experiences working with individuals with an extensive history of violence and extreme deviant pathology, along with providing expert training and consultative services to various law enforcement municipalities throughout the United States and Canada, Dr. Simon seeks to continue to provide expert consultation and training in the area of sexual deviate pathology and violence related issues. At the heart of Dr. Simon’s philosophical system is his belief in education and training as one of the foremost building blocks for success and confidence in the professional work place. Dr. Simon emphasizes the idea that together law enforcement and behavioral sciences are powerful disciplines in the fight against crimes of a violent and explicit nature, particularly in the area of sexual deviant threat assessment, and cold case solve-ability, where imagination and creativity are paramount for success when more conventional methods have at times proven unsuccessful.
